About the POGIL Practitioner Collaborative Application

Who Should Apply?
POGIL Practitioner Collaborative is designed for educators who are already familiar with POGIL. We welcome applications from those who have completed a Fundamentals of POGIL workshop, a 3-day POGIL workshop, or who have some experience using POGIL in their classrooms or labs.
Please note: This is not an introductory event. If you're brand new to POGIL, we recommend starting with the Fundamentals of POGIL workshop before applying.
Because it's fully virtual, POGIL Practitioner Collaborative makes it easier to participate—no travel, lower cost, and a smaller time commitment—while still offering rich, meaningful engagement. All attendees should come ready to actively contribute and connect with others.
Application Timeline (2025-26)
  • Mid-November ~ The call for applications is sent out to our database of POGIL users and is also available on our website.
  • Early January ~ Priority consideration deadline
  • Late January ~ Applicants who applied by early January are notified of an acceptance decision.
  • March 2026 - Session selection is complete and participants are notified.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the conference has reached maximum attendance.

Workshop (optional)  July 1, 2026

"Regaining Bandwidth for Students and Educators"
During this workshop, led by our Premier Plenary speaker Cia Verschelden, we will learn about several interventions designed to help students recover bandwidth, beginning with a strengths perspective about what skills and abilities they are bringing to the table – “funds of knowledge.” The interventions include community-building,values affirmation, connecting the known to the unknown, growth mindset, and high-hope syllabi.

In this workshop, participants will:
  • Think about the ways in which we can increase certainty for students (or at least not add to uncertainty).
  • Understand that students (and educators) have “funds of knowledge” and that beginning with those strengths will help them recover bandwidth and increase the likelihood of academic success.
  • Be introduced to several evidence-based interventions that show promise in helping students regain bandwidth.
  • Reflect on the potential of the interventions for use in the classroom and in other settings with students and educators.
